Lines

Here is a handy reference for one of our Toolbox Elements, LINES. What I really like is that by putting the lines into the rectangle, you are also dividing up the space in a related way.

This chart can be used to make some variations in your composition.

As you observe your subject matter try your first expression using say the first line choice, Horizontal Line, as a predominant feature. Carry this to as much of an extreme as you can. What elements in your composition are helped by the characteristics of Horizontal Line?

Then try making an expression with predominant Vertical Line as the feature.

Going through the list with the variations it presents will encourage your creativity and expressiveness.
